The 38 mm dimension refers to the diameter of the piston. On the Fiat 124 Spider/Coupé, brake callipers were sometimes fitted with 34 mm brake pistons and sometimes with 38 mm brake pistons. The dimension can only be determined on the removed brake calliper!dsHowever, brake calipers with 34 mm as well as 38 mm pistons can be installed.

The piston of the rear brake calliper must be screwed in as far as it will go by turning it to the right (see picture: arrow) before fitting.
IMPORTANT: The groove (position 1) must be horizontal in the fitting position and the small marking groove (position 2) must be above the wide groove (i.e. on the side where the bleed nipple (position 3) is)!
This is the basic setting so that the function of the handbrake adjustment is also guaranteed.
